Carolina’s story

The people we meet tell us the real impact that safe water and sanitation has on their lives.

Carolina Pezo used to walk 20 minutes, at least 5 times a day to collect enough water for her whole family to use and rather than going to school, her 9 year old daughter Rebecca used to help.

“This made me feel bad. I want her to have a better life than me and to know how to read and write.”

We worked with their community in 2018. Now, with safe water readily available whenever they need it, their own toilet and a tippy tap for hand washing the whole family’s health has improved.

Carolina has more time to farm, and she can grow enough crops to eat and sell.

It also means that Rebecca no longer spends her days fetching water. She’s in school, getting the education that every child deserves.

“My dream is to become a nurse, so I need to study hard.”
