The Rotary Club of Stokesley is organising a sponsored ‘Walk for Water’ following the magnificent 100 miles of the Teesdale Way from Dufton in the Cumbrian Pennines to South Gare at the mouth of the Tees taking in the historic and scenic sights of Cumbria, Durham and Tees Valley en route.

The walk will take place between September 8th – 15th 2019, spanning 8 days to raise funds for our safe water projects.

Why walk?

Stokesley Rotary aim to raise enough funds to transform one village in rural Zambia in our ‘One Village at a Time’ project. A lasting safe water source, combined with sanitation facilities and improved hygiene practise will dramatically reduce the rates of eye infections, diarrhoea and other waterborne diseases that stop people fulfilling their potential. The money the Club and their friends raise will help hundreds of people live healthier lives with more opportunity to escape the cycle of poverty through farming, being able to work or getting a decent education just like Nalitongo, our first ever village.

“People often have to walk miles to a safe water source – so every step our sponsored walkers take will remind them of the daily drudge in Zambia and motivate them to keep on walking.”

-David Hill, Stokesley Club Rotarian

The walk is open to all, and Stokesley would love your support.

Walkers can join for half a day, a full day or stay for every step of the 100-mile way. The walk will be led by experienced rambler Ruth Mayes, who will be ably supported by keen hikers from The Rotary Club of Stokesley.

There is a registration fee of £10 per day to a maximum of £30 with young walkers up to 16 years paying £5 a day up to a maximum of £15.

Progress is already going well in preparation for the walk with sponsorship pushing the £2,000 mark! Local Rotary Clubs of Middlesbrough Erimus, Cleveland, Redcar, Darlington and Barnard Castle are all on board and lot’s of keen walkers have signed up.

You can find out more, register your interest or just send them a few words of encouragement by going to the Walk for Water webpage or their facebook page.
