International Day of the Girl, Celebrating Girls and Their Ambitions

Access to safe water, sanitation and menstrual health support plays an important role in helping girls stay healthy, attend school with confidence and focus on their education. When these essentials are available, girls can spend less time worrying about their basic needs and more time thinking about their future.

At 13 years old, Anarine is already looking ahead. She dreams of becoming a soldier because she admires their dedication and training. As a member of her school’s Girls Club, she has learned about menstrual health and the importance of managing her periods with confidence.

Anarine also understands the importance of hygiene in protecting her health. She makes sure to wash her hands after using the toilet to help prevent illnesses like cholera.

Like many girls, Anarine is full of ambition and determination. Having the knowledge and support to manage her health can help her focus on achieving her goals.

Fourteen-year-old Charity also has clear plans for the future. Her favourite subject is English, and she hopes to become a teacher one day so she can inspire other young people through education.

For girls like Charity, access to safe water and sanitation creates a healthier learning environment where they can focus on their studies and pursue their ambitions.

Girls everywhere deserve the opportunity to learn, grow and dream big. This International Day of the Girl, we’re celebrating girls like Anarine and Charity, whose aspirations remind us why access to safe water, sanitation and menstrual health support matters.

By helping create healthier schools and stronger communities, we can support more girls to stay in education and build the futures they choose for themselves.
