Twenty Years Later in Nalitongo
Pictured above is Chilombo Chinyama. We first met her in 2004, when Village Water began supporting Nalitongo community. At that time, the village relied on a single, unsafe open well. Families, including Chilombo’s, walked long distances every day to collect water that often made them sick. On that first visit, we took a photograph together to mark the beginning of our partnership. More than 20 years later, Chilombo still keeps that photograph. When we returned to Nalitongo recently, they proudly brought it out to show us, a powerful reminder of just how far the community has come.
Today, Nalitongo looks very different. Clean, safe water is readily available. Families are healthier and livelihoods have improved. That photograph tells part of the story.
